Is Isabel Balmer Related to Charles Hanson?

If you’ve read any of the other pages on this site explaining possible relationships between people, you will not have been surprised by some of them. Darren Harriott and Ainsley Harriott both have the same name, for example, so it isn’t unusual for people to question if they are from the same family background. In some cases, however, it is a lot trickier to understand how people even questioned whether they were related, like with the Queen and Katy Perry. It is fair to say that Isabel Balmer and Charles Hansen fit more into the latter category.

Who Are We Talking About?

If you know the people that we’re talking about then you will likely know exactly why it is that some people have questioned whether they’re related. If you don’t know them, however, then it isn’t out of the realms of the possible that you’ll wonder what we’re even talking about, let alone have any idea about the personalities concerned. As a result, it makes sense for us to offer a quick explanation about the protagonists in the question:

Isabel Balmer

Isabel Balmer studied Geography at Durham University, getting a part-time job in a vintage shop in order to support her studies. Her mum, meanwhile, encouraged her to do some work experience at an auction house nearby, with the venue offering her a full-time job after just a couple of weeks working there. She went on to become the Head Valuer and Auctioneer at the Wessex Auction Rooms in Wiltshire, then in 2016 she stood in for Charles Hanson on Bargain Hunt after his wife went into labour. That was the start of a career in front of the camera that has since included the likes of Antiques Road Trip and The Travelling Auctioneers.

Charles Hanson

Charles Hanson’s professional career saw him working as a chartered surveyor before he decided to turn his hand to the world of antiques. He worked in antique houses in the likes of Staffordshire and Cheshire and then decided that he knew enough to open his own, creating Hansons Auctioneers and Valuers, based in Derbyshire. He first appeared on Bargain Hunt in 2002 and developed a career in television presenting from there. From that moment on, Hanson has appeared in the same sort of TV shows as Balmer, with all of Antiques Road Trip, Bargain Hunt and Celebrity Antiques Road Trip featuring him at one point or another.

Are They Related?

Seeing the pair together, it is easy to wonder why on earth someone might think they are related. It seems as if the main reason people have asked the question is that the pair get on well together and have a good working relationship. In fact, it is thanks to Hanson that Balmer has been able to develop her career in front of the camera, with the auctioneer recommending her as his replacement for that moment that he could not make it for a recording of Bargain Hunt because of the fact that his wife had gone into labour. Given the extent to which nepotism plays a major part in the TV industry, that might be part of the reason some people wondered whether they are related.
